Publicly-Engaged Humanities Graduate Education by Degrees

As the University of Iowa Andrew W. Mellon-funded Humanities for the Public Good Initiative participants design a graduate certificate and Master's degree, we've consulted with many leaders in graduate education. They've shared creative experiments with a number of degrees--from certificates to Master's degrees, to a Ph.D. Join us for a conversation with a few of those leaders on Tuesday, April 12 from 3:00-4:30 CT on Zoom

Humanities Labs: New Formations for Graduate Education

What is a humanities lab? Imagine a problem and project-based court in American or African American Studies, arts or performance, communication studies, film, GWSS, literature, language, history, philosophy, or religious studies in which your reading and writing addressed a pressing social challenge. Imagine testing how humanists could help address that challenge working alongside a community partner. Join us as we learn about humanities lab courses across the country. Then consider applying for summer funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Humanities for the Public Good initiative—perhaps with a colleague and/or community partner—to develop a humanities lab that both supports the goals of HPG and serves graduate students in your home department.

Next-Generation Dissertations—New Projects for an Engaged Academy

Dissertation reform is an essential thread in the tapestry of reimagining doctoral education. Join several humanities and social science scholars and the advisors who have supported them to learn more about these projects and why this kind of work matters.
