Internship: Sustainable Food Coordinator
This intern will work with the Museum’s Heritage Garden to help establish it as a site for telling stories about immigrant food producers–current and past; and to inquire into the role of the garden and the Museum in current issues around food insecurity and food justice.
Key Responsibilities:
- In coordination with Feed Iowa First and Metro High School, the intern will help to implement an educational series of public programming around food sustainability, immigrant farming practices, and food insecurity
- This person will be involved with the Museum’s Heritage Garden, which is an outdoor teaching space, including light upkeep and planning
- Perform research into historic immigrant farming practice, as well as current immigrant populations’ practice around food, heritage, and gardening
Qualifications & Skills Preferred:
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- A passion for sustainable agriculture and/or immigrant narratives
- Interest in a healthy and equitable food system
- Ability to work across systems
- Ability to perform light gardening work
- Interest in mentoring a high school student
- Commitment to teaching
